Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Reinstated After Court Order
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its affiliate, JAGPA, have been reinstated, following a High Court order. The party's registration was suspended, but it has now been restored. This comes after a legal challenge and a change in leadership, with Tasmina Prodhan, daughter of Shafiul Alam Prodhan and Rehana Prodhan, taking over the party. The party's registration was initially cancelled in 2021 for failing to meet conditions under the Representation of the People Order.
The High Court ordered the reinstatement in March 2025, following a writ petition filed by JAGPA president Tasmina Prodhan. Meanwhile, the election commission has also reinstated JAGPA's registration with its electoral symbol 'Hookah'. This decision comes amidst the registration of two new political parties, Bangladesh Republic Party and Bangladesh Labour Party, with their symbols 'Elephant' and 'Worker' respectively. Five political parties, including Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and JAGPA, have lost and regained their registration status due to various court orders and compliance issues.
The reinstatement of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and JAGPA's registration with their respective symbols marks a significant development in Bangladesh's political landscape. The election commission continues to process registrations and reinstatements based on court directives and compliance with the Representation of the People Order.
