Bangladesh Marks Fifth Anniversary of Labour Leader Shah Atiul Islam's Passing

Bangladesh marks the fifth anniversary of labour leader Shah Atiul Islam's passing. President Taslima Akhter remembers his fight for a democratic labour law, as the interim government plans to revise the law soon.

Atiul Islam, a prominent labour leader, passed away from Covid-19 in 2020. He dedicated his life to advocating for workers' rights and pushing for a democratic labour law. His efforts have not been forgotten. On the fifth anniversary of his death, the Bangladesh Trade Union Federation held a commemoration meeting to honour his legacy.

Ganosamhati Andolan leader Bachuchu Bhuiyan has called on labour rights bodies to unite and continue Atiul's fight. The interim government has responded to these calls, announcing plans to revise the labour law. Officials hope the revised law will become democratic, finally establishing the rights of workers that Atiul Islam championed.
