Bangladesh Navy deploys new peacekeepers to Lebanon under UN mission
A new contingent of the Bangladesh Navy has departed for Lebanon to join the United Nations peacekeeping mission. An 85-member team left Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram, while another 25 personnel flew out from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. Both groups will serve aboard the Bangladesh Navy ship Sangram as part of BANCON-16.
The deployment marks the latest rotation in Bangladesh’s long-standing contribution to the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). Earlier, 25 sailors led by Captain Fahid Abdullah departed from Dhaka, while the larger group left Chattogram under the supervision of senior officers. Before their departure, Assistant Chief of the Navy (Operations) Rear Admiral Mohammad Musa briefed the sailors on their responsibilities.
The newly deployed sailors will now take over duties aboard the Sangram, continuing Bangladesh’s involvement in maritime security and peacekeeping efforts in Lebanon. Their work will include countering arms trafficking, monitoring regional waters, and delivering humanitarian assistance as part of the UN mission.
