Bangladesh pauses expat postal votes over flawed address submissions
The Election Commission (EC) has temporarily halted postal vote registrations for Bangladeshi expatriates in seven countries. The pause occurred after many applicants submitted incomplete or incorrect addresses through the Postal Vote BD app. Without accurate details, ballot papers cannot be sent, making voting impossible for now.
The issue was first detected on Wednesday night among voters in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, Malaysia, and the UAE. Many had entered wrong or partial addresses, preventing the dispatch of ballots. Consequently, the EC suspended new registrations in these countries to rectify the issue.
The EC anticipates high voter participation once the problems are resolved. They will continue monitoring the situation and address any further issues as they arise. For now, expatriates in the seven affected countries must wait until the correction feature is available before their ballots can be processed.
