Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Gets New 26-Member Committee

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) has seen significant changes with the formation of a new 26-member executive committee. The committee, led by the cultural affairs adviser as president and the BSA director general as member secretary, comprises cultural activists and representatives from various ministries and organizations.

The new committee, announced by the cultural affairs ministry, replaces the previous one that faced several resignations. Notably, Syed Jamil Ahmed stepped down as BSA director general in February 2025 due to administrative interference and bureaucratic obstacles, following his resignation along with other members from the October 17, 2024 committee.

The new committee includes prominent figures such as Nazrul artiste Ferdous Ara, Dainik Amader Shomoy executive editor Ehsan Mahmud, and pioneering photographer Nasir Ali Mamun. Poet Rezauddin Ahmed Stalin was appointed as the new BSA director general, serving a one-year term from September 21.

The committee will convene every three months, with the government retaining the power to dissolve or restructure it. Members can resign by submitting an application to the president. The new committee is expected to bring fresh perspectives and drive progress in Bangladesh's cultural news landscape.
