Bangladesh slams India for hosting fugitive Sheikh Hasina’s media interviews
Bangladesh has summoned India's deputy high commissioner to protest against former premier Sheikh Hasina's interactions with Indian media. Dhaka expressed 'serious concern' over India allowing Hasina to speak to journalists. Hasina, currently on trial for crimes against humanity, recently gave interviews to Indian, British, and French media outlets. However, only Indian diplomats were summoned. Bangladesh described Hasina as a 'notorious fugitive' and requested India to discontinue her access to media. India-Bangladesh relations have deteriorated since the caretaker administration led by Muhammad Yunus assumed office in August 2024. India has criticized the interim government for failing to prevent the oppression of Bangladesh's minorities. Bangladesh's protest comes amidst strained India-Bangladesh relations. Dhaka's displeasure with India's handling of Hasina's media interactions may further complicate their diplomatic ties.
