Bangladesh's Armed Forces to Guard February 2026 Elections
Bangladesh's interim government is gearing up for the 13th Jatiya Sangshad elections in February 2026. Professor Muhammad Yunus, a renowned economist, has directed the chiefs of the three armed forces to ensure foolproof security for the polls. He praised their efforts in maintaining national security and law and order over the past 15 months.
The chiefs of the three armed forces have invited Professor Muhammad Yunus to attend the Armed Forces Day celebrations on November 21. Yunus expressed fears that both internal and external forces might attempt to disrupt the forthcoming national election. He cautioned that sudden attacks could occur during the election, highlighting the need for vigilance.
The interim government is committed to holding the election in a free, fair, neutral, peaceful, and festive manner. To ensure this, around 90,000 army personnel, more than 2,500 navy members, and air force officers will be deployed for maintaining law and order during the polls. Notably, one army company will be stationed in each upazila during the elections.
The security measures aim to safeguard the democratic process and ensure a smooth election. The interim government's commitment to a fair election is evident in the extensive security arrangements. Professor Muhammad Yunus's involvement and concerns underscore the importance of these elections.
