Bangladesh's ICT to File Major Charge Sheet Against Military Officers
A significant development is expected in Bangladesh's legal system this week. A new charge sheet is set to be filed against numerous high-ranking military officers, including those who held sensitive duties during Sheikh Hasina's tenure.
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) is investigating over 150 serving and retired Bangladesh Army officers for alleged excesses on students and dissenting voices, enforced disappearances, and killings. The upcoming charge sheet will frame charges against all Army chiefs who served from 2009 to 2025.
Notably, the accused officers held important responsibilities and sensitive duties during Sheikh Hasina's tenure. These roles included positions in DGFI, NSI, RAB, SSF, PGR, and military attaches of embassies. While specific names of Bangladesh Army top brass, Bangladesh Air Force chiefs, and Bangladesh Navy officers have not been revealed, it is likely that some of these individuals will be named in the charge sheet.
The new charge sheet is expected to be brought against these officers from Tuesday to Thursday, with warrants potentially being issued during this period. This marks a significant step in Bangladesh's ongoing efforts to address allegations of human rights violations.
