Bangladesh’s Youth Debate Corruption with Gender Equity at the Forefront

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) recently hosted the 'Inter-University Anti-Corruption Debate Competition 2025'. The event aimed to empower youth and promote anti-corruption awareness, with a focus on gender equality and key societal values.

The competition saw participation from top universities such as the University of Dhaka, North South University, and BRAC University. It required each team to include at least one female participant, reflecting TIB's commitment to gender balance. Additionally, the judging panel also ensured gender equality.

Iftekharuzzaman, executive director of TIB, emphasised the importance of values like honesty, justice, humanity, and equity in both debate and society. He noted the scarcity of tolerance for differing opinions in Bangladesh's political culture, making the competition's goal of fostering open dialogue even more crucial. The top eight teams from this year's competition will secure direct entry into next year's edition.

The competition offered attractive prizes, with the champion team receiving Tk 50,000, the runner-up Tk 30,000, and the best debater Tk 10,000, along with crests and certificates.

The 'Inter-University Anti-Corruption Debate Competition 2025' successfully brought together students from leading universities to discuss and promote anti-corruption values. By encouraging gender equity and open dialogue, the event set a strong foundation for future debates and societal progress.
