Wolfgang Niedecken Remains Cautiously Optimistic - BAP’s *Final Stretch* tour blends 50 years of music with defiance against rising populism

German rock band BAP will kick off their Final Stretch tour in November 2026. The series of concerts marks the group’s 50th anniversary. Frontman Wolfgang Niedecken has shared his thoughts on hope, family, and the rise of populism ahead of the performances.

Niedecken admitted that many in his generation feel defeated by current global tensions. He pointed to the growing influence of hardline populists, naming Björn Höcke as a key figure in Germany’s political shift. Höcke, leader of the AfD in Thuringia, has helped push the party to second place nationally with 20.8% in the 2025 Bundestag election, even leading polls in several states.

Despite the grim outlook, Niedecken insisted he cannot afford to lose hope. As a family man, he said he must keep going—for his family’s sake. His refusal to surrender stems from a simple question: how could he face his children and grandchildren if he gave up? The tour, titled Final Stretch, reflects both a milestone and a defiant attitude. While the name might suggest an ending, Niedecken’s words hint at persistence rather than resignation.

BAP’s upcoming shows will run alongside a political climate where right-wing voices are gaining ground. Niedecken’s stance remains clear: personal responsibility and family ties drive his cautious optimism. The Final Stretch tour begins in November, offering fans a mix of celebration and reflection.
