Basel-City expands ‘Stop Violence’ to fight domestic abuse canton-wide
Basel-City is intensifying its campaign to combat domestic violence. The 'Stop Violence' project, which kicked off in Kleinbasel late last year, is now set to expand across the canton. Authorities have secured funding and a new partner to spearhead the project long-term.
The pilot program initially launched in Kleinbasel, focusing on engaging victims’ social networks. Unlike conventional methods, it actively involves friends, family, and neighbors to help identify and address abuse. Early trials have shown encouraging results.
The project’s funding and new leadership signal a long-term commitment to combating domestic violence. By 2026, ten centers will be involved, covering more neighborhoods. Authorities anticipate that the community-based approach will enhance early intervention and support for those at risk.
