Bavaria finally adopts Germany's 115 government hotline in 2026

Bavaria will join Germany's nationwide 115 government hotline on May 1, 2026. The move follows federal requirements under the Online Access Act and expands telephone access to public services across the state. Citizens will soon have a single number for all administrative questions, from federal to local matters. The 115 service provides answers on everything from permits to social benefits. Operators handle inquiries about federal, state, and municipal services, simplifying access for residents. The hotline will operate Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Bavaria had been one of the last states to fully implement the 115 sign language service for deaf and hard-of-hearing users. Some cities, including Munich, already offered the hotline before the statewide rollout. Despite the expansion, Bavaria's existing helpline, Bayern direkt (089/122220), and local municipal services will continue as separate options. The change aligns with the Online Access Act, which requires uniform digital and telephone access to public administration. By joining the 115 network, Bavaria ensures compliance while improving service efficiency for its citizens.

Starting May 1, 2026, Bavarians can call 115 for all government-related questions. The hotline will operate alongside existing state and local services. The expansion also includes full sign language support, making administration more accessible for all residents.
