New bylaws aim to bring more women into the farmers' association - Bavarian farmers push for gender equality ahead of fall elections
The Bavarian Farmers’ Association has voted to alter its membership criteria, with the goal of granting women equal status within the organization. If approved, this new system could commence as early as this fall's elections. This move aims to put an end to the long-standing gender disparities within the group.
For years, the association has maintained two separate structures, predominantly divided by gender. Many rural women, despite their significant roles in farming, have not held full membership. Instead, only the farm manager—typically a man—was automatically enrolled.
The revised rules would signal a significant shift in how the association functions. Women would finally gain full membership rights. These reforms could also attract more families to the group, expanding its base in anticipation of future elections.
