Couple with children in trunk stopped - Bavarian police uncover children riding in car boots and unrestrained
Police in Bavaria have uncovered two shocking cases of children travelling without proper safety measures. In one incident, officers discovered two youngsters riding unsecured in a car boot on the A3 motorway. Another stop revealed a packed vehicle with multiple unrestrained passengers, including seven children and four adults—none wearing seatbelts.
The first incident occurred on the A3 motorway in Lower Bavaria. Officers pulled over a family of seven travelling from Bulgaria to the Netherlands in a five-seater car. Two children were found in the trunk, while three others sat without proper seats or restraints. The driver now faces charges for endangering the children's lives.
In a separate case near Kirchdorf am Inn, police stopped a seven-seater car on a federal road. The vehicle carried four adults and seven children, none of whom were wearing seatbelts. The driver lacked a valid licence and is currently under investigation. Official records show that Bavaria has documented 12 similar cases of unsecured children in vehicles over the past five years (2021–2025). Most reports came from police logs across the region.
Both drivers now face legal consequences, including hefty fines and potential charges. Authorities continue to stress the importance of child safety in vehicles. These cases highlight ongoing risks despite existing regulations.
