Bavaria's Democracy Marketplace prepares first-time voters for local elections

Ahead of Bavaria's local elections on 8 March 2026, the Kreisjugendring Aschaffenburg launched a Democracy Marketplace for young voters. The event took place across four schools in the district, targeting around 800 students—many of whom will be voting for the first time.

The initiative came as over 10,000 new first-time voters became eligible in the district since the last municipal elections in 2020. Organised in partnership with local groups, the marketplace featured interactive booths on voter motivation, election procedures, and democratic values.

Students could test a mock polling booth and use the AB-O-Mat tool to explore political positions. The goal was simple: encourage young people to engage with the electoral process before casting their ballots.

The Democracy Marketplace reached hundreds of students just days before the election. With interactive tools and hands-on activities, organisers aimed to boost turnout among new voters. The event wrapped up as Bavaria prepared for local polls on 8 March.
