Bureau for Population Protection to be established in or around Munich - Bavaria's First State Office for Population Protection to Bolster Civil Defense
Bavaria is set to establish its first state office for news protection, with the new authority to be based near Munich. The move comes in response to evolving threat situations and aims to bolster the state's civil protection capabilities. The new office, to be headed by Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann, will initially focus on planning and coordinating tasks. It will also play a crucial role during crises, bundling and coordinating the work of civil protection organizations, including the siren warning system and digital warning systems. The federal government's recent publication of new operations plans for civil protection has highlighted the need for such an office. Located near the state government, the office will aim to sustainably strengthen the overall state's ability to act in population protection and enhance administrative structures at the state level. Although a location in Munich or close proximity is currently unavoidable, the exact site is yet to be determined. The Bavarian cabinet has tasked Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann with officially initiating the establishment of the new State Office for Population Protection. Once operational, it will be the first such office in a federal state, reflecting Bavaria's commitment to robust civil protection measures.
