Plans to replace an old chairlift at the Fellhorn ski resort have drawn sharp criticism from environmental groups. The project marks the first time a ski infrastructure upgrade in Bavaria will move forward without a full environmental impact assessment. Conservationists warn the development could severely harm protected wildlife and habitats.

The proposed lift replacement falls under Bavaria’s third Modernization Act, which exempts it from the usual environmental review. This legal change has allowed the project to bypass standard checks, raising concerns among campaigners.

If approved, the lift replacement would set a precedent for future ski developments in Bavaria. The LBV’s potential legal challenge could delay or block the project, depending on court rulings. The outcome may also influence how environmental laws apply to similar upgrades in protected mountain regions.
