Bayer’s Co.Lab Transforms Berlin Into a Life Science Powerhouse for Startups
A year ago, Bayer opened Co.Lab, a shared workspace for start-ups in Berlin. The facility supports young companies in life sciences by offering more than just a desk—it provides labs, mentorship, and global connections. Bayer’s goal is to turn the site into a major hub for scientific and business talent.
Bayer Co.Lab spans 1,000 square metres, mixing open-plan offices with secure labs. The space is designed for collaboration but also ensures privacy for sensitive research. Start-ups here gain access to Bayer’s network of experts, investors, and patent specialists.
The selection process focuses on three things: scientific innovation, capable teams, and founders who can push their ideas forward. Once accepted, tenants stay until their projects reach a critical stage—there’s no fixed deadline to leave. The aim is not to create a comfortable workspace but to prepare ventures for global competition.
By December 2025, the Berlin network had grown beyond the original site. New partnerships and coworking spaces now exist across the city, particularly in Berlin-Buch, where local projects and expert recruitment are underway. Events and programmes run regularly, though exact details on future expansions remain limited.
Bayer sees Co.Lab as a cornerstone of its innovation strategy. It aligns with the company’s focus on key therapeutic areas while fostering an international network of researchers and entrepreneurs. Applications remain open worldwide, with most candidates applying directly to a specific location.
Bayer Co.Lab continues to expand its reach in Berlin, linking start-ups with resources and expertise. The initiative reflects the company’s broader push to build a leading life science ecosystem. Further growth is expected, though specific timelines and locations have yet to be fully disclosed.
