Belarus-linked Mello Trading quietly profits from duty-free stores despite withdrawal claims
Mello Trading, a company with ties to Belarusian leadership, continues to profit from duty-free stores in the country despite official claims of withdrawal. While the firm states it no longer operates there, financial records show ongoing revenue from a chain of over 30 Belamarket Duty Free outlets. Ownership of Mello Trading is split between two entities. A 50.1% stake belongs to Mello Trading of Grand, while the remaining 49.9% is held by Dipmarket—a company linked to Alexander Lukashenko's administration. Together, these firms control the Belamarket Duty Free chain across Belarus.
The company has publicly stated it cannot access financial assets in Belarus due to restrictions. However, recent figures reveal the chain generated €17 million in revenue last year, with €2 million in profit. Mello Trading also received €200,000 in dividends in 2022, contradicting its claims of inactivity. Mello Trading specialises in duty-free trade, operating a network of more than 30 stores in Belarus. Despite its assertions, financial records confirm ongoing business activity in the country.
Financial data shows Mello Trading remains active in Belarus, despite its official stance. The company's duty-free operations continue to yield profits, with dividends paid as recently as 2022. The chain's revenue and profit figures suggest ongoing commercial involvement in the country.
