Belarus orders citizens with foreign ties to declare nationality by 2027

Belarus has introduced a new rule requiring citizens with foreign ties to declare their Belarusian nationality. The change will take effect from July 1, 2027. It targets those holding dual citizenship, residence permits abroad, or permanent emigrant status.

The regulation applies to three main groups. First, individuals who have already informed Belarusian authorities about their foreign citizenship must now formally declare their Belarusian nationality. Second, those who obtain foreign citizenship or residence permits in the future will face the same requirement.
