Close Race for the District Administrator Position in the Berchtesgadener Land - Berchtesgadener Land's district race narrows to two after tight first round
The race for District Administrator in Berchtesgadener Land has narrowed to two candidates after a tight round 1. Michael Koller of the Free Voters took the lead with 36.9% of the vote, while CSU's Franz Rasp followed closely at 33.4%. The two will now face each other in a runoff election to replace Bernhard Kern.
The first round saw Green Party candidate Bartl Wimmer eliminated after securing 23.8% of the vote. This result continues a pattern of close contests in the region, where the CSU has often prevailed by slim margins in recent years.
In 2020, the CSU won the district council election by less than 5% against a combined opposition of SPD, Greens, and FWG. A year later, the party's candidate narrowly defeated the Greens in Berchtesgaden's mayoral race by just 2.3%.
Now, Rasp and Koller will compete head-to-head for the top administrative role. The runoff will determine who succeeds Kern, with both candidates having already demonstrated strong local support.
The runoff election will decide whether the CSU maintains its recent hold on key positions in Berchtesgadener Land or if the Free Voters secure a victory. Voters will choose between Rasp and Koller in the final round, with the outcome shaping local leadership for the coming years.
