Bergisch Gladbach Doubles Down on EV Charging with 36 New Stations by 2026
Bergisch Gladbach is expanding its electric vehicle charging network with 36 new public stations. These will add 72 charging points across the city by the end of 2026. The move aims to support growing demand as electric mobility becomes more widespread.
Eight of the new stations are already in use, bringing the current total to 14 operational points as of February 2026. The project is part of a broader effort to modernise urban infrastructure and encourage sustainable transport.
The locations for the new charging stations were selected after analysing local traffic flows, demographic data, and electric vehicle registration numbers. This approach ensures the points are placed where demand is highest.
Each station features two AC charging points, providing a standard output of 11 kilowatts. Smart load management allows individual points to deliver up to 22 kilowatts when required. Drivers can pay easily via app, charging card, or QR code with a credit card. HOCHTIEF Charging Partners is overseeing the entire project, from planning and financing to construction and long-term operation. The city has supported the initiative by streamlining permits through a digital tool and granting special use rights for at least eight years. Mayor Marcel Kreutz and First Deputy Mayor Ragnar Migenda have both stressed the importance of expanding charging infrastructure. They see it as key to the success of electric mobility and the city's future development. The remaining stations will be installed in stages over the coming weeks.
The expansion will bring Bergisch Gladbach's total to 44 public charging stations with 88 charging points by late 2026. The project reflects the city's commitment to sustainable transport and modern urban planning. Residents and visitors will benefit from more accessible and efficient charging options.
