Bergisch Gladbach Launches Collection for German War Graves Commission
Bergisch Gladbach launched its drive for the German War Graves Commission (VDK) on October 15, 2025. The event, inaugurated by Mayor Frank Stein, seeks to raise funds for war cemetery upkeep and peace education. The VDK, founded in 1919, tends to war victims' graves abroad and promotes peace through its youth work.
The drive, led by Anne Linden, continues until December 2025. Linden welcomes new volunteers and can be contacted at 02202 - 14 2497 or [email protected]. Mayor Stein stressed the significance of remembering war's atrocities and supporting peace education. The VDK's motto, 'Reconciliation over the graves - Work for peace', guides its mission to transform war cemeteries into educational sites. The funds raised will support cemetery expansion and maintenance, with an emphasis on peace education in youth centers.
The drive in Bergisch Gladbach is a notable initiative, uniting local authorities and VDK representatives to honor war victims and cultivate peace. The public is invited to contribute until December 2025.
