Bergisch Gladbach's BürgerAkademie to Educate Residents on Municipal Parliament
Bergisch Gladbach's BürgerAkademie is gearing up to educate residents about the workings of the municipal parliament, including its factions, groups, and specialist committees. The upcoming event will also provide insights into the role and operation of the city council, with Christian Ruhe, head of the city council office, as the guest speaker. Admission to these events is free, with tickets initially reserved for members of the circle of friends who support local journalism and civic debate.
The BürgerAkademie, a central institution for local communication, offers events like BürgerClubs and workshops for civic education. The next workshop, scheduled for October 29, will be led by Christian Ruhe, who will explain the role and operation of the city council, including its special committees (Fachausschüsse). Following the workshop, attendees will have the opportunity to visit the council meeting on November 4 and engage in discussions with council members.
The upcoming local elections on September 14 have brought about new circumstances in Bergisch Gladbach's local politics, with a new mayor and shifts in power. The new city council will be constituted at the beginning of November, and the BürgerAkademie will continue to provide information and education on the role and function of the city council in its future issues.
The BürgerAkademie, through its events and workshops, aims to empower residents by providing a deeper understanding of their local government. With the support of the circle of friends, who contribute a monthly fee starting at 8 euros or a one-time donation, the BürgerAkademie can continue its mission of fostering civic engagement and supporting local journalism in Bergisch Gladbach.
