Bergisch Gladbach's youth services to relocate for a brighter future

Bergisch Gladbach’s youth services are set for a major change as plans to relocate them from Q1 to the Zanders site take shape. The move, backed by the SPD and Green parties, aims to create a more dynamic and inclusive space for young people while keeping their needs at the centre of the city’s community efforts. A joint motion for the May 28 Youth Welfare Committee meeting will now formalise the details. The city administration’s proposal to shift youth services to the Zanders site has gained support from both the SPD and Greens. They stress that the relocation is not about reducing youth work but about expanding it with fresh opportunities. In the meantime, services will continue at Q1, with necessary maintenance carried out and operational duties transferred to GL Service gGmbH.

The new Zanders area is designed to serve all generations, with a strong focus on young people. An open youth hub will form a key part of the development, helping to shape a lively, forward-looking urban district. Beyond the Zentralwerkstatt, extra spaces for traditional open youth work will also be created in the city centre.

These new areas will be carefully positioned to avoid conflicts over usage and provide safe, quiet zones for young people. The SPD and Greens plan to use the upcoming Youth Welfare Committee meeting to clarify and refine the proposal, ensuring stability and transparency in the process. The relocation will bring youth services into a modernised setting while maintaining their importance in Bergisch Gladbach’s community plans. With dedicated spaces and a clear focus on young people, the Zanders site is expected to become a central hub for the city’s future. The next steps will be discussed and finalised at the May 28 committee meeting.
