Bergische IHK debates economic crises ahead of 2024 European elections

The Bergische IHK hosted its first panel discussion on the upcoming 2024 European elections. Local business leaders and politicians gathered to address pressing economic challenges in the region. Key issues included rising bureaucracy, crumbling transport networks, and energy reliability. At the event, IHK President Henner Pasch highlighted the growing burden on companies due to constant new regulations and slow responses from public offices, diverting time and money from core operations. Businesses also raised concerns about the worsening state of roads, railways, and bridges, warning that delays in repairs were harming trade and commuters. The panel marked the first time the Bergische IHK had organised such a debate ahead of European elections. While local leaders and politicians agreed on the urgency of the issues, they differed on how to address them. The event concluded with calls for faster reforms and greater cooperation between regional and national authorities.
