Bergisches Runde unites leaders to enhance senior living and accessibility
Local leaders and senior representatives recently gathered for the Bergisches Runde, a key forum for senior policy discussions. The event focused on improving independent living for older adults and strengthening support networks across the region. Accessibility, digital inclusion, and health prevention were among the top priorities addressed. This year's meeting placed a strong emphasis on 'Prevention', covering health, safety, and support services for older residents. Delegates from Radevormwald, Mettmann, Haan, Remscheid, and Solingen shared updates on their municipalities, highlighting shared challenges in caring for ageing populations.
Accessibility in public spaces and payment systems—both digital and traditional—was a major talking point. The role of senior citizens' councils was also underlined as a crucial link between local authorities and older people. Radevormwald's Seniorenbeirat is currently conducting a large-scale survey of around 3,000 older adults. While results are still being evaluated, they will be presented at a future Bergisches Runde meeting. The next gathering is already scheduled for May 21, 2026. Looking ahead, the Bergisches Seniorentag will take place in Wuppertal in April 2028, continuing the region's commitment to senior welfare.
The Bergisches Runde remains a central platform for coordinating senior policies and sharing best practices. With ongoing surveys and planned events, the initiative aims to address the needs of older residents more effectively. The next steps will include analysing survey data and preparing for future gatherings.
