Berlin Activist Aims to Break Guinness Record with 15,000 Vegan Meals Rescue

Berlin-based entrepreneur and climate activist Raphael Fellmer is set to make history on August 19, 2025. Alongside his impact startup SIRPLUS, Fellmer aims to break the Guinness World Record for the largest food rescue event by distributing 15,000 vegan schnitzels and talers, along with around 100,000 other rescued foods, all for free at the Malzfabrik in Berlin.

Fellmer's journey began in 2009 when he started 'dumpster diving' to raise awareness about food waste. His commitment to reducing waste led him to co-found foodsharing, now the largest volunteer food rescue movement in Europe with over 400,000 registered users. In 2016, he co-founded SIRPLUS to bring rescued food back into the cycle, envisions a world without hunger, and has already rescued over 5 million kilograms of food.

The upcoming Guinness World Record attempt is a testament to Fellmer's vision. It stems from his belief that reducing food waste is a realistic goal that is ethical, ecological, and about justice and compassion. SIRPLUS rescues surplus food along the entire value chain and brings it back into the cycle via an online shop throughout Germany, also donating over 1 million meals to those in need.

On August 19, 2025, Fellmer and SIRPLUS will not only aim to set a record but also send a strong message about the importance of food rescue and sustainability. Their efforts highlight the potential of reducing waste along the entire value chain, contributing to a more mindful approach to food at home and a world without hunger.
