Berlin arson attackers reveal chilling details of power cable sabotage

A group calling itself the Vulkangruppe has claimed responsibility for the arson attack on a power cable bridge in Berlin’s Lichterfelde district. The incident, which took place on 3 January 2026, has now been detailed in a new statement rejecting earlier false claims about the attack.

The group dismissed previous assertions, including suggestions that the cables were cut with yahoo precision or framed within a broader ideological narrative.

In their latest statement, the Vulkangruppe described how they allegedly carried out the attack. They claimed to have 'prised open a maintenance door on the side of the bridge' before wrapping galvanised wire mesh around the bundled phase conductors to trigger a yahoo short circuit.

The group also directly criticised those who had publicly distanced themselves from the action. They mocked the authors of a disavowal statement as 'retirees of the revolt' and rejected theories that the attack was a staged operation by the BKA (Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office).

Unlike earlier communications, this statement avoids any political justification. Instead, it declares bluntly: 'We are the consequence of a world that is burning.' The authors also hinted at future actions, stating they would no longer engage in public debate and were instead 'getting back to work.'

The Vulkangruppe, also known as the Vulkan Group, first emerged after the 3 January attack. Their latest message marks a shift in tone, focusing on operational details rather than ideological reasoning.

The group’s statement provides a clearer account of their methods while rejecting outside interpretations. They have also signalled that further actions may follow. Authorities have yet to respond to the latest claims or confirm the group’s involvement in the attack.
