Berlin arson suspect arrested after relief truck set ablaze in Moabit
A refrigerated relief goods truck was set alight in Berlin’s Moabit district on Saturday afternoon. The fire caused severe damage to the vehicle before being put out by security staff. Police have since arrested a 43-year-old man in connection with the incident.
The blaze broke out at around 14:30 on March 2, when the truck was parked in Moabit. Two witnesses reported seeing a man tampering with the vehicle shortly before it caught fire. Security personnel quickly detained the suspect and extinguished the flames before firefighters arrived.
The man was taken into custody after testing positive for a blood alcohol level of approximately 1.6 per mille. He was later transferred to the arson investigation unit for further questioning. Authorities are now examining whether this attack is linked to a similar arson incident on December 28.
The suspect remains in police custody and will appear before a magistrate. A decision will then be made on whether to issue a detention warrant.
The vehicle suffered extensive damage from the fire, and investigators continue to probe a possible connection to the earlier arson case. The suspect’s next steps will depend on the magistrate’s ruling regarding his detention.
