Berlin braces for Easter weekend traffic chaos and marathon road closures
Heavy traffic is set to disrupt Berlin and its surrounding areas over the Easter weekend. The Berlin Half Marathon on Sunday, March 29, will add to congestion in the city centre. Motorists are also warned of delays on key routes, including the A10 Berlin Ring and urban highways. The busiest travel days will likely be Friday, March 27, and Saturday, March 28. Maundy Thursday, April 2, is also expected to see peak traffic volumes as holidaymakers take to the roads.
On the A10 Berlin Ring, delays are forecast between the Werder interchange and Phöben exit. Further congestion is anticipated between Schönefeld Cross and the Spreeau interchange toward Frankfurt (Oder). Drivers should also prepare for slowdowns between the Spreeau interchange and Rüdersdorf, as well as between Nuthetal and Potsdam. Inside the city, Berlin's urban highways—particularly near construction zones on the A100 and A115—will face longer journey times during peak hours. The Berlin Half Marathon, which last year drew a record 48,134 participants as part of the Berlin-Marathon weekend, will close roads and disrupt traffic in central areas on Sunday.
Authorities advise drivers to plan extra time for journeys during the Easter period. The combination of holiday travel, roadworks, and the marathon will create challenging conditions on major routes. Real-time traffic updates are recommended for those travelling in or around Berlin.
