Berlin Conference Boosts EU Fight Against Organized Vehicle Crime

A two-day conference concluded in Berlin, focusing on combating organized vehicle crime as part of the EU-funded ISF LUMEN project. The event, hosted by the Berlin State Criminal Police Office's specialized unit, aimed to strengthen international cooperation and facilitate professional exchange.

The conference brought together specialized units from Berlin, Brandenburg, Thuringia, Saxony, and the Polish police. Among them was a team from Brandenburg involved in the ISF LUMEN project, although their specific name was not mentioned.

Berlin, which faces high rates of car theft, has seen success in cross-border investigations. Stolen cars taken from Germany have been recovered in 'chop shops' in Poland, leading to apprehensions of suspects. The conference aimed to build on these successes and further enhance cooperation.

The Berlin unit is coordinating a subproject focused on organized car crime within ISF LUMEN. The project, funded by the EU, aims to tackle cross-border car crime by fostering international cooperation and professional exchange.

The conference in Berlin marked a significant step in combating organized car crime across borders. With the involvement of multiple EU member states and successful cross-border operations, the conference has set the stage for continued cooperation and further progress in recovering stolen cars and apprehending suspects.
