Berlin cyclist critically injured in tram crash with suspected drugs found

A 42-year-old cyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a tram in Berlin's Fennpfuhl neighbourhood. The incident, which occurred at an intersection along Landsberger Allee, has led to a police investigation involving possible drug offences. Authorities discovered suspected narcotics in the rider's possession after the crash.

The accident took place when the cyclist, riding an e-bike, entered the intersection against a red light. A tram, driven by a 61-year-old operator, struck the rider, causing multiple torso fractures. Emergency services rushed the injured man to hospital for treatment.

Following the collision, police conducted a search of the cyclist's backpack. Inside, they found around 40 micro-reaction vessels and plastic bags containing substances believed to be cocaine and cannabis. An identity check also revealed that the cyclist was subject to an active arrest warrant.

The case is now under investigation for two potential offences: causing a traffic accident resulting in injury and suspected drug trafficking. As of January 2026, Berlin police have not released further public statements regarding the ongoing probe.

The cyclist remains in hospital while authorities examine the circumstances of the crash and the discovered substances. The investigation will determine whether charges related to drug possession or traffic violations will be pursued. No additional details have been provided by police at this stage.
