First Document Box for ID Cards - Berlin debuts 24/7 self-service box for ID and passport pickups
Berlin has launched its first 24/7 document pickup box for IDs and passports. The new service is now available at the Eichborndamm citizen service centre in Reinickendorf. Residents can collect their national ID cards and passports at any time—without needing an appointment or waiting in line.
The project is a joint effort between the Senate Chancellery and the Reinickendorf district office. It aims to make document retrieval more convenient for Berliners. While the new box allows round-the-clock pickup, applying for a new ID or passport still requires an in-person visit to a citizen service centre.
The new 24/7 pickup box at Eichborndamm is the first of its kind in Berlin. More locations are expected to follow in the coming months. For now, residents must still apply for documents in person but can retrieve them at their convenience.
