Berlin drug bust turns violent as Smart car drags officer 30 metres
A routine police operation in Berlin’s Friedrichshain district escalated into a violent confrontation on Tuesday. Two plainclothes officers attempted to stop a Smart car suspected of drug trafficking, leading to injuries and a chaotic chase. Three officers were hurt, and two 20-year-old suspects were later arrested on Kynastbrücke.
The incident began when officers tried to halt the Smart car near Warschauer Straße. As they approached, the driver suddenly reversed, dragging one officer for around 30 metres. The officer was only freed when the car collided with a parked vehicle. He suffered rib injuries and was immediately taken off duty for medical care.
The operation resulted in three injured officers and two arrests. The confiscated items, including the suspected cocaine, will undergo further examination. Police continue to investigate the incident as part of broader efforts against drug trafficking in the area.
