Berlin fire in 11-story building injures five after basement blaze spreads smoke
A fire broke out in an 11-story residential building in Berlin-Spandau, leaving five people with minor injuries. The blaze started in the basement before spreading smoke through the upper floors via the elevator shaft. The incident began when flames erupted in four storage units located in the basement. Smoke quickly travelled upwards, filling the building’s corridors and stairwells. Emergency services received a surge of calls, leading firefighters to initially fear a 'mass casualty incident'. Five individuals suffered minor injuries during the incident. Authorities confirmed that no serious harm occurred, and all displaced residents have since returned to their flats. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
