Berlin firefighters battle three suspicious blazes in Karlshorst overnight
Berlin firefighters tackled three separate blazes in the Karlshorst area late last night. The incidents occurred within half an hour, involving a car trailer and two recycling bins. Authorities are now investigating the cause of the fires.
The first fire broke out around 10:30 p.m. in a paper recycling container on Waldowallee, near Rheinsteinstraße. Fire crews quickly arrived to extinguish the flames.
Shortly before 11:00 p.m., a car trailer caught fire on Maria-Matray-Straße. Then, just ten minutes later, a glass recycling bin ignited at the intersection of Waldowallee and Ehrenfeldstraße. All three fires were brought under control by the Berlin Fire Department.
Police briefly questioned a 13-year-old and a 14-year-old found near the scene. Neither was formally suspected, and both were later released to their guardians or youth services. A witness had earlier reported seeing a group of young people in the area.
The arson unit of the Berlin State Criminal Police Office has since taken charge of the investigation. No suspects have been identified so far.
The fires left no reported injuries, but the cause remains unknown. Investigators continue to examine the incidents for possible links. The public has been asked to report any relevant information to the authorities.
