Berlin Greens aim for mayoral victory as election nears and polls lag
The Berlin Greens have set their sights on leading the city as the next election approaches. Werner Graf, the party’s lead candidate, is campaigning to become Governing Mayor, positioning himself as a unifier for all Berliners. Recent polls, however, show the Greens trailing behind the CDU in third or fourth place.
Graf has made clear he finds more alignment with the SPD and the Left Party than with the CDU. His campaign focuses on broad appeal, aiming to bridge divides across the city. Alongside co-lead Bettina Jarasch, he has stressed opposition to antisemitism, demanding any coalition partner share this stance.
The Greens’ detailed manifesto and Graf’s bid for mayor reflect their ambition to shape Berlin’s future. Yet with the CDU still ahead in polls, their path to leading the city depends on shifting voter support. The election will determine whether their coalition strategy and policy focus can secure a stronger position.
