Berlin hit-and-run leaves pedestrian injured after van driver flees hospital
A 66-year-old pedestrian was struck by a blue van in Berlin’s Neukölln district on Monday evening. The driver abandoned the scene after leaving the injured man at a hospital without alerting authorities. Police have now launched an investigation into the incident.
The collision occurred as the pedestrian crossed Hermannstraße at a green light. The van hit him before the driver transported him to a nearby hospital. Despite the injuries—including rib and shoulder damage as well as facial bruising—the man’s condition was not considered life-threatening.
The driver then left the hospital without informing police or providing details. Officers later confirmed no evidence linked the van to another fatal accident involving a cyclist on Tuesday afternoon. The case has since been transferred to the traffic crimes unit of Police Directorate 5 for further examination.
Authorities are now working to identify the van driver and establish the full circumstances of the hit-and-run. The pedestrian remains in hospital, while investigators gather evidence. No further details about the driver’s identity or motives have been released.
