Berlin Fire Department Remembers Deceased Colleagues - Berlin honors fallen firefighters in poignant Memorial Day tribute

A solemn memorial ceremony took place in Berlin to honour firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty. The event, held at the Fire Brigade Memorial on Mariannenplatz in Kreuzberg, drew at least 300 attendees on Memorial Day. This day also marks the close of the church year for the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia.

The ceremony began with a service at St. Thomas Church, where Bishop Christian Stäblein delivered a sermon. Following this, attendees gathered at the memorial site for a moment of silence. The names of the fallen firefighters were then read aloud, along with the details of how each lost their life.

The memorial served as a formal recognition of the sacrifices made by Berlin’s firefighters. It also provided an opportunity for colleagues, officials, and the public to reflect on their service. Memorial Day remains a key date for remembrance within the city’s emergency services.
