Berlin kebab shop robbed after violent late-night gambling dispute
A kebab shop in Berlin's Schöneberg district was robbed in the early hours of the morning. The suspect, who had been gambling at the premises since the previous afternoon, attacked two employees before fleeing with cash and two knives. Police are now searching for the assailant.
The incident began just after 1:00 PM when the suspect entered the shop and started gambling. By 3:10 AM, as the staff prepared to close, he demanded a refund for his losses. When refused, he threatened two employees with a fork and grabbed cash from the register.
During the confrontation, the attacker used a kebab knife to injure a 23-year-old worker's hand and upper arm. He then fled towards Schöneberg S-Bahn station with the stolen money and two knives in his possession. The investigation is now being handled by a specialised unit under Directorate 4 (South). While overall robbery figures in Berlin saw a slight drop from 81,460 cases in 2024 to 80,541 in 2025, police have not recorded specific statistics for kebab shop robberies or district-level breakdowns.
The suspect remains at large as authorities continue their search. The injured employee received medical attention for wounds to the hand and arm. Police have not yet released further details about the ongoing investigation.
