Hanukkah Celebration: Security Measures Around the Brandenburg Gate - Berlin locks down Brandenburg Gate for Hanukkah 2024 candle lighting
Berlin will see heightened security around Brandenburg Gate this afternoon. A general order will restrict movement and gatherings in the area between 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM. The measures coincide with the lighting of the fourth Hanukkah 2024 candle, attended by the president of the Bundestag.
The security operation will cover Pariser Platz, Platz des 18. März, and part of Unter den Linden. Public gatherings in outdoor spaces will be banned during the six-hour window. Parking of cars, bicycles, or electric vehicles in these zones will also be prohibited.
The restrictions aim to ensure safety during the Hanukkah 2024 ceremony. Access to the area will return to normal after 6:00 PM. Police have not announced any further measures beyond today’s operation.
