Imposter Cop Foiled by Vigilant Berlin Couple - Berlin man arrested for impersonating police to scam elderly couple
A 25-year-old man was arrested in Berlin after allegedly impersonating a police officer to defraud an elderly couple. The incident took place on Monday morning in the Lichterfelde neighbourhood. Authorities confirmed the arrest but have not yet released the suspect’s identity as of January 13, 2026.
The suspect contacted a 78-year-old woman and her 77-year-old husband by phone, claiming to be a law enforcement officer. He warned them of an imminent robbery and demanded their life savings for safekeeping. Instead of handing over the money, the couple grew suspicious and alerted the authorities.
When the man arrived at their home, officers were waiting and arrested him immediately. Investigations into the case are ongoing, though no further details about the suspect’s background have been made public.
The couple avoided financial loss by reporting the fraud attempt in time. Law enforcement has urged residents to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be an officer before sharing personal or financial information. The suspect remains in custody while the investigation continues.
