It has a keyhole in the center and a label on the front with text on it. The wall behind the doorbell has a few cracks and chips in it, indicating that it has been exposed to the elements for some time.

Berlin man stabbed in violent home robbery as crime surges in Gesundbrunnen

A violent robbery in Berlin's Gesundbrunnen neighbourhood has left a man hospitalised with multiple stab wounds. The attack happened in the early hours of yesterday morning, marking another incident in an area where crime rates have risen sharply in recent years.

The assault took place just after 3 a.m. on Wollankstraße. An unidentified man and woman rang the doorbell of an apartment before forcing their way inside. Once in the flat, the male attacker reportedly stabbed the 36-year-old tenant several times in the back. He also thrust a knife through the door opening, wounding the victim's hand.

The female accomplice waited in the stairwell while the robbery unfolded. After stealing the tenant's phone, both suspects fled the building. The injured man was later treated in hospital for stab wounds to his hand and back, as well as a head laceration.

Police Directorate 1 (North) has taken over the investigation, with a specialised unit now leading the case. The incident follows a broader trend in Gesundbrunnen, where crime has risen by around 8% over the past two years. The area, home to roughly 90,000 people, has seen a steeper increase than similar dense neighbourhoods like Neukölln-Rudow (+5%) or Wedding-Nord (+3%). Most of the rise comes from thefts and violent crimes, according to Berlin's official crime statistics.

The victim remains in hospital recovering from his injuries. Authorities continue to search for the two suspects, who remain at large. This robbery adds to the growing number of violent incidents in a district already facing rising crime rates.
