Berlin dismisses concerns about wind turbines - Berlin Mayor Clarifies Wind Energy Expansion: No Imminent Border Sites
Berlin's Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) has clarified the city's stance on wind energy expansion, addressing concerns from Brandenburg. He assured that no decisions have been made on new wind turbine sites near the state border.
Berlin is required to set aside at least half a percent of its land for wind turbines by 2032. However, Mayor Wegner has dismissed fears that new wind farms are imminent along the Brandenburg border. He confirmed that there are no publicly known sites in Berlin that have been approved by the Senate.
Brandenburg, on the other hand, must allocate 2.2 percent of its territory for wind energy use. It must also maintain a minimum distance of 1,000 meters between wind turbines and residential areas. Both states have agreed to work closely together and coordinate on wind energy issues.
Mayor Kai Wegner has reassured Brandenburg residents that no final decisions have been made on wind farm locations. He has also ruled out the possibility of large wind turbines in the Grunewald forest under his leadership. The Berlin Senate has not made any decisions about wind farm sites, putting concerns to rest for the time being.
