Berlin motorcyclist critically injured after driver's reckless U-turn on Heerstraße
A serious traffic accident in Berlin's Westend district left a motorcyclist with life-threatening injuries. The crash happened on Heerstraße when a car driver attempted an abrupt U-turn. Emergency services rushed to the scene after the collision on the morning of March 24, 2026. The incident began when a 25-year-old man driving an Audi suddenly turned across traffic on Heerstraße. His manoeuvre led to a direct collision with a 61-year-old motorcyclist. The impact sent the rider crashing to the ground, where he slid across the roadway.
Emergency responders arrived quickly and performed resuscitation at the scene. The motorcyclist was then taken to hospital with critical injuries. Meanwhile, the road was shut between Scholzplatz and Pichelsdorfer Straße for around four and a half hours to allow rescue work and investigations.
The accident also involved three other vehicles at the nearby Alte Heerstraße intersection. Three additional people suffered injuries—two with minor wounds and one more seriously hurt. Police Directorate 2's traffic investigation unit has since taken charge of the case. Heerstraße has since reopened after the lengthy closure. The injured motorcyclist remains in hospital, while authorities continue to examine the circumstances of the crash. The investigation will determine whether charges will be filed against the Audi driver.
