Berlin party office targeted in red liquid balloon attack by fleeing cyclist

A federal party office in Berlin's Tiergarten district was attacked in the early hours of yesterday morning. The incident involved a cyclist throwing a balloon filled with red liquid at the entrance door before fleeing the scene. Authorities have now launched an investigation into the vandalism.

The attack took place when a security guard spotted a cyclist approaching the building. The suspect threw a balloon against the glass door, causing it to burst and splatter red liquid across the entrance. After damaging the door, the cyclist quickly rode away.

The Berlin State Office of Criminal Investigation's political security unit has since taken charge of the case. While no nationwide statistics exist for such incidents, data from Rheinland-Pfalz shows a rise in election-related crimes. During the state election campaign there, 271 offences—including poster damage and attacks on party offices—were recorded. The CDU's state office was targeted twice, alongside incidents affecting the SPD, Greens, and AfD.

The Berlin police are now examining the evidence from the scene. The investigation will focus on identifying the suspect and determining any possible motives. No further details about the party office or the suspect have been released at this stage.
