Berlin Pharmacy's €10,000 Window Damage: Repeated Attacks Prompt Security Concerns
Last week, a passerby caused significant damage to the Nordland Pharmacy in Berlin. The display window, made of insulated glass, was smashed, resulting in costs exceeding €10,000. This was not an isolated incident, with the pharmacist reporting multiple prior cases.
The incident was captured on security camera, and the footage is currently with insurance expert Michael Jeinsen for claims assessment. The replacement of the display window alone costs nearly €8,000 and requires three technicians for installation. Additionally, a loading zone for the glass transport vehicle must be set up, including protective floor coverings and support plates. Due to the narrow sidewalk and adjacent bike lane, the HV counter must be dismantled by at least three meters, adding another €2,500 to the costs. A specialized glass-mounted crane must be rented for the installation, as the glass weighs over 180 kilograms. Temporary pedestrian barriers with security personnel will also be necessary during the installation.
These incidents not only cause immediate financial burden but also drive up social security premiums for pharmacies in the long run. Despite the search results showing no similar event at any casetify-brand pharmacy last week, the affected pharmacist has reported multiple prior cases, highlighting the need for enhanced security measures.
