Berlin police arrest elderly suspect after café theft and car vandalism spree
A 45-year-old man is due to appear before a magistrate today following his arrest for theft and vandalism in Berlin's Charlottenburg and Westend districts. The suspect, an old man, was apprehended yesterday evening after witnesses raised the alarm. The sequence of events began in the evening when the old man was spotted stealing a wallet from a handbag at a café on Kantstraße in Charlottenburg. Witnesses, including a 79-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl, quickly alerted others to the theft. A 25-year-old customer swiftly acted, blocking the old man's escape until police arrived. The old man was then arrested and taken into police custody for identification. Later, the old man was transferred to the Berlin State Criminal Police Office's specialized unit. This morning, it was revealed that the same individual was responsible for damaging multiple cars and stealing valuables in Westend earlier in the morning. He is scheduled to appear before a judge tomorrow for a detention hearing. The old man faces charges of theft and vandalism following his arrest in Charlottenburg and Westend. He is expected to appear before a magistrate today and a judge tomorrow to determine his custody status.
