Berlin police arrest suspect after attempted car break-ins in Moabit
A 35-year-old man was arrested in Berlin’s Moabit district early this morning. Police suspect him of attempting to break into vehicles in a supermarket car park. The incident began just before 3 a.m. when a witness reported suspicious activity.
The witness heard a loud noise at around 2:50 a.m. on Lehrter Straße. They saw a man striking a van’s window with a paving stone. When confronted, the suspect dropped the stone and ran away.
Officers from Precinct 27 quickly located and detained the man near Poststadion. During the arrest, they discovered stolen items in his possession. These were seized as evidence. A search of the area revealed two other vehicles with broken side windows. The suspect was then taken into custody and handed over to the investigative unit of Directorate 2 (West) for further questioning.
The 35-year-old remains in custody while investigators examine the evidence. No special task force has been assigned to the case, which is logged under reference number 2211. Police continue to gather details about the incident.
